The Big Green & Black Elf

So, today I had my first day on the cash register at Publix (supermarket). Wearing the requesite uniform (black slacks, white blouse, green vest and very ugly shoes) I am certain I appeare to be a big green and black elf. What's more, produce has about 1000 different numbers, none of which is familiar to me! The young girl, Mehgan, who was my trainer, was a delightful girl, but I still felt like the customers who came to my line, surely went away wondering why they let this old, slow woman work there. However, mostly they smiled understandingly. Perhaps I will get better. But, tomorrow I am flying to Cleveland to celebrate my 70th birthday. I return the 7th and go to work the 8th, so just pray I remember at least 1/2 of what I theoretically learned today!!

The condo, however, is starting to really look like I live here. As soon as I can get Shannon to show me how to post photos, I will show you.

Life is pretty good, and if Mike was just here to help me celebrate this milestone birthday (after all, I was around to help him celebrate his!!), it would be very nearly perfect. Barb is having a birthday party for me and I will fill you in on it when I return. Thanks for checking in - and happy birthday to me!!! Ricci

LIFE IS JUST A BOWL OF CHERRIES!!!

Tonight, Gina and I are spending our first night in our new home. The living room looks a lot like a hurricane just went through. The guys wanted to know where to put everything, but since I didn't know where to tell them, I just told them to put it down anywhere. Well, luckily, there were not too many places the bed would fit - thank Heaven - so it is in the right place. However, today, I came down and looked until I found the dust ruffle. Then I ironed it because when you have been crammed into a drawer for a year and a half you are rather wrinkled!! Then, of course, I had to get in on the bed. Definitely not an easy task by yourself. It is not perfect, but it still looks good. I will work here Saturday and Sunday to get it in order. Tomorrow is a painting day - only two bedrooms, an office and one bathroom to go!

And, just to prove that God is watching over me, I got hired today by Publix to be a cashier. That is if I pass the drug and criminal past tests! So now, it looks like I will be able to pay my rent even if I did put the cart before the horse.

It is hard to believe that it has been over a year and a half since it has been just Gina and me, but here we go. Back into a life - and it is time! If I can ever figure out how to put them on this sight, I will definitely show you photos.

Meanwhile, thanks so much for your tolerance. Putting this in writing has been an amazing help and I hope I can return the favor. Thanks again. Ricci

ALMOST TIME

Tomorrow I meet the cable man at our new digs to get Wifi. Wednesday, friends are helping me move the heavy furniture to the condo. Then, I guess I will actually be a full part of life again. However, I still don't have a job. Right now, I am painting Eileen's house. Have a little to do in the piano room and living room- then on to the bedrooms. That should take care of my rent for March. Perhaps someone will want to employ me by then. I certainly will be crossing my fingers!! While I am waiting for Bright House, I will start unpacking the dishses to see what of those I have. I do know I gave away the iron, vacuum cleaner, ironing board, mixer, food processor and various other things. The ironing board and iron, however, are very important to my showing up at an interview looking like a person!! I'll let you know how the surprises are. Thanks for checking. Ricci
