HI HO HI HO IT'S OFF TO WORK I GO - (I HOPE)

The reason I am hoping that is on February 15th, Gina and I will actually be living in our own little 2B/2B condo. I will post a photo of the before, but I never realized how many boxes I have to unpack, so I am thinking it will take until around Easter to get it all organized. However, since it has taken me a year and a half to get around to lighting somewhere, I guess there is not really a hurry to get it unpacked! (I know where the dishes and the wine glasses are, so I'll be okay until I get it unpacked!!) It will be quite strange, I am certain, to do this without Mike, but I am sure he is lurking somewhere in the shadows - at least he is never far from my thoughts.

It is great to be back in Florida. One's body temperature takes about five minutes to adjust, though! This morning it was about 52 degrees and I was sure it was going to snow!! And, yes, I realize I will be getting no sympathy from any relative or friend in the midwest. So I say - COME ON DOWN! (After 2/15 and I'll be happy to put you up). Talk to you in a couple of weeks when we are in!!! Thanks for checking. Ricci

2012 - Florida

Here I am - or I should say - here WE are - because I have to include Gina. We had a wonderful time at Scotty's! You know, there truly is something good in everything. It was interesting to discover that while I always thought my older son thought like his father and the younger thought the same as I, it was definitely incorrect. Actually, while Scott looks like his father and Shawn looks like my mother's father, the thinking process is from the opposite families. Very, very interesting. The visit was absolutely great; the kids were great; Shannon was relaxed enough with me to be herself and the visits with my sisters were fun.

Driving down here, we stopped in Charlotte to see my friend,Marlene. It was such a fun time, and never ceases to amaze me that no matter how much time goes between visits to high school friends, we seem to pick up right where we left off. Marlene and I actually bought makeup for her (I don't think she has ever worn any) and when she got her face made up at the department store, she looked marvelous. She bought everything - now the test - will she put it on everyday!!

Now Gina and I are in the sunshine state and while we have had a couple of cold days, it is basically warm and sunny! All of my clothes are actually ironed and hanging up in an organized manner. That would be for the first time in a year and a half. Gina is happy to be back with Rusty, who was her first canine acquaintance and Eileen has soundly beaten me on the WII quite regularly. Now for the hard part. Finding a job and a place of my own to live. While it is wonderful of Eileen to "put us up", it really is time to forge a new life. I didn't realize I would be quite so nervous about the prospect of finding someone to hire me; however, it seems I am. (So, I have decided to re-read the "Four Agreements" and the "Fifth Agreement" in order give myself a boost of self-esteem. And, GOLF, my favorite, has become quite a challenge. Hopefully, as it gets warmer, my game will improve.

Just to top off things; yesterday, while Eileen was volunteering at hospice, I decided to take the dogs for a walk around the perimeter of Lansbrook (about 5 miles). Everything was just hunky-dorey until a woman with a big black poodle had the nerve to be on the same side of the street. Trying to keep the dogs from aggravating the poodle, I shortened my grip on their leashes, only to have them try to get to the poodle by going around my legs. While attempting to undo everything, I took a step and went ass over teacup, scraping my wrist, my knee, banging myself up and making a fool of myself - although on utube, it probably would have been great slapstick! I explained to the owner of the poodle, that I was not hurt - just extremely embarassed! So, Heaven knows what the next adventure will be!! Will let you know soon. Thanks for checking. Ricci

A NEW BEGINNING

Okay- it is actually 2012. Since our mother died at 42, both my sisters and I are always astounded that we reach another year!! Thankful, but always surprised. What in the world is in store for this year?
Work, I hope! I thought I was finished with painting with the exception of my own; however, recent events have shown me otherwise. First, the repair and paint passed inspection (I am sure only with Divine Intervention!!), so I guess physical labor is still not out! Then my sister wanted her lower level painted and papered and that has also been accomplished! She wanted a dark red. Now it is not only dark red, but it took so many coats of paints to get it even, that I am certain it could pass for a bomb shelter! Just to make certain I don't forget how, I have agreed to paint the bedroom of a former sister-in-law 2 days before I leave for Florida. This morning there is that horrible white stuff – that should only be viewed in Currier & Ives pictures – all over the ground! A clear indication that it is time to get out of Dodge!

Ellen Degeneres had a contest to make your dreams come true, so I entered to get a vacation with my sisters. The story obviously was not tragic enough to get any notice. In fact, it wasn't really tragic at all and that was really too bad, because I thought it was a great idea!!

My son and his family have been really great and it has been wonderful to spend this time with them. Now, though, it is definitely time to move forward with my life. My first resolution is to find employment so that I can keep my second resolution, which is to be in my own home by the time I reach the age of 70! YIKES! It is so amazing to wake up feeling thirty, then (using a magnifying mirror, of course) applying makeup to a face that absolutely is not 30! It is a surprise every morning! Hopefully, a future employer will mistake me for at least a few years younger. (HA HA HA)

I reconnected with an old friend while here and that is always a good thing because one cannot have too many friends. We laughed a lot, as usual – it just wasn't on a sailboat this time. New Year's was spent playing Skipbo with my younger sister and brother-in-law, drinking and laughing a great deal and thoroughly enjoying the time together! She has a nice little two bedroom condo for sale in Columbus, if you know anyone who is looking!!

This is Monday, Jan 2, and I plan to leave Sunday morning for Charlotte, arriving back in Florida on Tuesday or Wednesday. (who do you suppose ever decided how to spell Wednesday – and why?? - Just wondering).

This will be a new year with a new life and I am looking forward to sharing some fun times with you all. Again, Happy New Year and thanks for tuning in! Ricci
